Ashgabat’s “Russian Bazaar” has an abstract concrete sculpture floating over its market square ,the sculpture is a stylized version of the ferula plant, which Turkmens nickname the “bowl of gazelles” because of a real desert-survival trait. Built in the late 1970s by sculptor Klych Yarmamedov. It looks like pure art… but it’s secretly hiding the building’s air ducts.
